Recently, Senior Material (Europe) AB (“Senior Europe”), Shenzhen Senior Technology Material Co., Ltd (“Senior Shenzhen”), and Zhejiang Lande Energy Technology Development Co., Ltd (“Lande”) have announced a strategic development partnership aimed at revolutionizing the production process of battery separators. The collaboration seeks to introduce an enviroment-friendly solvent and process within Senior’s wet-process manufacturing system of battery separators, replacing the traditionally used dicholormethane (DCM).
The project focus on optimizing the wet-process production method and related equipment systems to ensure the successful application of the new solvent as a sustainable alternative to DCM. Key objectives include achieving technical performance benchmarks in environmental sustainability, occupational health and safety, energy efficiency, and cost control.
Following the successful completion of the pilot phase at Senior Shenzhen’s facility, the project has now entered the stage of mass-manufacturing engineering testing, with completion targeted for 2026. Once successfully validated, it will become the world’s first DCM-free, enviroment-friendly wet-process production technology for battery separators. The technology will be promptly implemented at Senior Europe’s production facility.
As the first company in the world to lead the development of enviroment-friendly, DCM-free wet-process battery separator technology, Senior Material is solidifying its position as a global technological leader in the battery materials sector. This development project reflects the company’s commitment to social responsibility and technological innovation, aiming to drive a greener and more sustainable battery supply chain.
