Towards more sustainable battery manufacturing: Vinnova grants funding to Senior Material Europe for DCM-Free separator production in Sweden
Senior Material (Europe) AB has been awarded funding from Vinnova under the programme “Scaling up for a Sustainable Battery Value Chain 2026” for the project DCM-FreeSE – Sustainable Scale-Up of Dichloromethane-Free Battery Separators Manufacturing in Sweden. The project aims to accelerate the transition towards more sustainable battery manufacturing by eliminating the use of dichloromethane (DCM) in separator production and scaling up a safer, more environmentally sustainable manufacturing process. In collaboration with RISE and KTH Royal Institute of Technology, the project will advance DCM-free separator technology from pilot scale to pre-production level, while validating product performance and assessing environmental and industrial benefits. Through this initiative, Senior Material Europe contributes to strengthening a more sustainable, resilient, and competitive battery value chain in Sweden and Europe. Members of the Municipal Planning Committee visit Senior Material’s factory in Eskilstuna
Eskilstuna, 2026-03-19 Representatives from the Municipal Planning Committee of Eskilstuna visited Senior Material’s facility in Svista to gain a closer understanding of the company’s operations and the ongoing establishment in Eskilstuna. During the visit, the company presented its production of separator film for lithium-ion batteries, a key component in the European battery value chain. The participants were given an overview of the production process and how the facility contributes to the growing battery industry in Europe. The visit also included a guided tour of Factory 2, where participants were able to see the production line and learn more about how the manufacturing process is designed and how the facility works to manage and minimise diffuse emissions. “We appreciate the opportunity to welcome representatives from the municipality and to provide insight into our operations and technology,” said Ben Chang, CEO at Senior Material (Europe). Senior Material established its European operations in Eskilstuna as part of the company’s strategy to support the development of a local and resilient battery value chain in Europe. Företagsbesök av Kristdemokraterna hos Senior Europe
Senior Europe hade idag nöjet att välkomna representanter från Kristdemokraterna på företagsbesök hos oss. Vid besöket deltog riksdagsledamoten Camilla Brodin, som representerar Kristdemokraterna i Sveriges riksdag, tillsammans med Tony Merskho, Paul Sabo, Joakim Widell och Richard Eklund. Under dagen fick vi möjlighet att presentera vår verksamhet och ge en övergripande bild av Senior Material (Europe) AB - vår organisation, produktion och vårt strategiska arbete. Särskilt fokus låg på vår anläggning i Eskilstuna, där vi visade hur produktionen fungerar i praktiken och hur vi arbetar med kvalitet, hållbarhet och innovation. Vi berättade också om vår roll i energiomställningen och hur vi arbetar för att utveckla vår bransch och bidra till samhällsutvecklingen, både lokalt och globalt. Besöket gav dessutom möjlighet till en öppen och givande dialog kring industrins förutsättningar och framtida möjligheter. Vi är tacksamma för besöket och ser fram emot en fortsatt öppen dialog.

Miljökonsekvensbeskrivningen och övrigt underlag har tagits fram av externa svenska expertkonsulter och lämnats in i enlighet med de krav som ställs i vår svenska lagstiftning. All relevant information har hanterats inom ramen för myndigheternas prövning. Att beskriva detta som att uppgifter har undanhållits ger en direkt missvisande bild av processen - och oss som bolag. I komplexa miljöprövningar är det normalt att olika aktörer lyfter fram olika riskperspektiv. Det förändrar inte det faktum att de konsulter som genomfört utredningarna också har bedömt risken för spridning till vatten som liten. Vi har stor respekt för den svenska miljöprövningen och för de beslut som fattas av ansvariga myndigheter. Vår utgångspunkt är att etableringen ska ske med höga miljökrav, full transparens och i enlighet med gällande regelverk.Det är samtidigt viktigt att den offentliga diskussionen bygger på hur tillståndsprocessen faktiskt fungerar, inte rykten och spekulationer. Förutsägbara och rättssäkra prövningar är en grundförutsättning för att Sverige ska kunna attrahera de långsiktiga investeringar som krävs för den gröna omställningen.
